Shopping for groceries is the easiest way to get a glimpse of the culture anywhere. In California, it is extra rewarding because the good grocery stores are sooo good, and there are so many things you can buy even if you are not going to actually cook meals.
Breakfast type things, such as fruit, berries and great bread are easily available, and whenever I have a chance, I prefer making my own breakfast. It gives the day a grounded start.
