For the home
I am into tablecloths lately. Such an easy way to upgrade a meal and improve acoustics around the table.
And it does not necessarily have to be a full tablecloth. Bring back the placemat!
I prefer a subtle colors in nicely textured linen or cotton to maximize harmony. Placemats in a strong contrasting color easily make the setting look like a chess table, while nuanced ones just add a softening layer.
Setting the table is a meaningful act in itself.
When you decide to make time for it, even if it is only for yourself, you strengthen your commitment to good life (as opposed to putting good life on hold because this moment does not really count).
As for dreamy tablecloths, placemats and napkins, I regularly browse the selection at March or Fog Linen for inspiration. Or if you are up for it, you can make your own.
