The Zetter Townhouse
Going back to The Zetter Townhouse has already become a little tradition for us. Set in a Georgian house in the heart of Marylebone, it is such a charming and easy place to stay in London, and the location is fantastic.
The hotel has 24 rooms only, including one suite, and a tiny, apparently very popular, bar downstairs where you can have a cocktail by the fire before heading out to dinner.
The best thing about the hotel is the location and how small and informal it is. You have as much peace as you like but when you need something, the staff is there to help.
I am also into the way of setting the breakfast in new boutique hotels like this. It feels such a waste to have a thousand of options since most people just want something simple.
Order eggs or avocado toast from the kitchen if you are hungry, or just have a bowl of fresh berries, yoghurt and granola along with your coffee or tea. On a recent trip, we ate in bed most mornings but the breakfast room downstairs is nice too.
The hotel decor is fun with all the oriental rugs, dim lights, rich textures and dark colors. It is also a tiny bit odd to add to the experience. You really feel like you are visiting a wicked uncle who has a pet parrot…
Going out, there is a fantastic Basque restaurant Lurra just two minutes away. Towards the other direction, there is Selfridges, the department store heaven where you can find everything you can possibly think of needing in your wardrobe or home, be it a Japanese cast iron pan or a pair of Céline heels.
Walk a little further you are on Marylebone High Street. It is some of the nicest and coziest shopping areas in the city, with lots of small shops and cafés to visit.
